My DW and I are taking a different vacation this year and have decided not to cruise. Sad
We are going through huge withdrawals.   I normaly would be on here everyday reading everything I could about our ship and destination.  We have sailed every winter for the last 7 years all with Princess.
I will still come here from time to time and dream while reading your comments about how great your cruise was. Grin

We haven't been on a cruise since September of 2006!  And not one scheduled until January 2009!  But that one will be the 16 day Buenos Aires to Santiago including 4 days off of Antarctica.  And since it is both a "milestone" birthday AND a "milestone" anniversary, we are splurging for our first full suite!  Can't wait.

Nice new forum here.

Could the new forum be "announced" in a thread on CC?  Or would that be against the rules too?

Princess Chatter is intentionally designed to let you freely speak your mind about anything related to Princess or cruising in general.  You may say why you love your travel agent or why you left a previous travel agent.  You may praise Princess or be critical of Princess.  You can freely talk about any group getting together for their own sail away party.

CC policies greatly differ.  CC can and will restrict your posting if they think it interferes or conflicts in any way with their commercial business interests.

Because of the style and nature of this board an announcement on CC might get you banned from CC.

Here are few examples of CC policy:

"Cruise Critic reserves the right to approve or deny links which lead directly to or link to cruise-related material or message boards that is not located within Cruise Critic. This does not mean all links will be removed, but rather that they will be reviewed on a case-by-case basis."

"There shall be no third-party recommendation of travel agencies on any forums within Cruise Critic."

Touting of your personal cruise agent is not allowed on our message boards. Postings that contain "tell them John sent you" will be removed without notice.

Cruise Critic will remove violations of the "third-party recommendation" guideline without warning. Additional posts will result in permanent suspension of your posting privileges.

From time to time, Cruise Critic management is contacted by Tour Operators/Guides/Business who request removal of negative posts about their company. We will comply with all such requests, however, we will also remove all posts on the board about said company -- in an effort to provide an appropriate resource for our community. Further posts about the company -- either positive or negative -- will be censored from appearing on the boards.

Only official Cruise Critic Group Cruises may be promoted anywhere on our cruise forums. This includes graphics, links, banners and references to any non-Cruise Critic Group Cruise. Any promotional material posted on the forums about non-Cruise Critic Group Cruises will be removed without notice.

etc etc etc

Naplesam,
That sounds like an awsome trip.  Don't know how your going to contain yourself for that long of a time before your cruise.
hahaha

I forgot to mention that I posted about the new board on CC.
It lasted about 6 minutes before it got zapped.  It was read by 7 people at least.  Wink
I wondered if they would allow it.   Grin

Enjoy your land-based vacation this year.  There was a time span that we didn't cruise, either.  But, we're back now....as you will be in the future!

I saw another post this afternoon about this site. It was timed around 3 pm.  I replied to it and said it would probably disappear soon.  It was gone in less than 5 minutes.  Grin

You're name is also familiar from CC.  Good to see some spill-over to these boards.  It is too bad more people dont know about this board because CC has been really slow lately!
In any event, I would LOVE to cruise the Ruby but I just got back from the Western Caribbean on the Grand last month.  Of course the Ruby is starting out on the same Itin.  Thats ok, I am really looking at the Crown Princess for Jan/4/2009.  See any great deals on that?  I have recieved a few decent quotes from Cruisecompete.com.

I have never booked a cruise a year in advance.
Help me out here.  What are the pros and cons of booking this early.

I have never booked a cruise a year in advance.
Help me out here.  What are the pros and cons of booking this early.

We always get our best prices and cabin selections by booking at least a year out.  We have Antarctica booked in Feb 09 on Hurtigruten, then a Princess cruise from BKK to Whittier in April - May of 2009, Galapagos in January 2010, and leave in two weeks for a TA on the Zuiderdam and in October for a Holy Land cruise with Princess.  The prices on the Diamond from BKK to Whittier have gone up by close to 5k since our booking for the same cabin, and in fact even now all the best cabins are waitlisted. We also got a great discount by booking early with Hurtigruten.  Also, we have time then to pay for all of this over time and not be hit with a chunk of money all at once.  It gives us a lot of time to plan and research our ports, put out requests for others to join us on our excursions, and longer for everything planning wise.  We would take a short notice cruise if it was the right one, but overall, we always try to book at least a year to even two years out. We did book a short notice 3 day cruise on Princess Dawn but that was just to get to Platinum status for our cruise in Asia.

Jay - So sorry you're not cruising this winter, we have to wait until October and I can hardly stand it.  Maybe you should book another cruise now, for next year!!!

I bumped onto a link on CC too....not sure if it is still there, but I came right on over and even see some of the CC posters here!
Just another great place for cruise chat, hope others will find this as well.  As far as I am concerned - cruising is one hot topic and can never read about it enough! Cheesy
