There are differences between Princess and Royal Caribbean. In general, Princess provides a superior product.  These observations are based on recent cruises on Brilliance of the Seas and Diamond Princess.

•   Royal Caribbean has the same menu every day for breakfast in the dining room; Princess offers additional special breakfast items daily.

•   Royal Caribbean has a buffet table in the main dining room at breakfast and lunch; Princess never would have a buffet table in the dining room.

•   Royal Caribbean does not open the main dining room for lunch on port days, Princess always does.

•   Royal Caribbean charges extra for “freshly-squeezed” orange juice at breakfast.

•   Royal Caribbean uses mugs rather than cups and saucers for coffee in the dining room.

•   Royal Caribbean does not offer daily afternoon tea; Princess always does.

•   Princess has food in the buffet 24 hours; Royal Caribbean closes the Windjammer buffet at various times.

•   Royal Caribbean has constant announcements – even interrupting dinner to announce bingo.  Princess never would interrupt dinner.

•   Royal Caribbean did not offer lobster even once at dinner on a 12 day cruise.

•   Royal Caribbean’s dinner menus were repetitive on a 12 day cruise; Princess offered different menus each night on a 15 day cruise.

Royal Caribbean is better in some ways:

•   Royal Caribbean provides a daily four page printed newspaper every day; Princess used to provide this but no longer does.

•   Royal Caribbean has the Seaview café for cooked to order pasta dishes and pizza.  Princess has nothing similar.

I believe the Sun Class ships (Sun, Dawn and Sea Princess) bake pizza to order in their indoor pizzerias near the Atrium.

Princess has the Princess Platter, delivered to the door each night for the next days activities.

Might I also mention, that while the crew and staff are largely drawn from the same labor pool, I find that the employees of Princess seem to be more professional than there RCI equivalents.
I believe this to be a result of superior training, in addition to other minor perks, such as the private pools/retreat for the employees, and the fact that you may quite readily find employees congregating and eating in the same areas as passengers. I for one, like what this says about Princess.

Comments, opinions, contradictions anyone?

Princess has laundry rooms for passengers.  Royal Caribbean has none.

I do believe I would be more inclined to take advantage of this than a coin-operated laundry.
