Hi

Thinking about doing a cruise on Ruby Princess Sept 2010, looking at either a balcony or mini suite, are there any cabins I should avoid.

Thank you

I think the only cabins I would try to avoid would be the ones right near the self-service laundromats.  They can get pretty busy at times; it increases the foot traffic past your cabin, and the conversations can sometimes get pretty loud.  They also tend to increase the heat and humidity in the immediate area.

I would avoid being near laundry rooms and elevators as well or right above Club Fusion on the Emerald Deck or right below the Lido deck on the Riviera Deck.  I prefer a cheaper balcony aft cabin that looks straight back on the Baja or Caribe Deck.  Mini-suites are always nice but only if the mini is very near the same price as a balcony cabin and is located away from any possible noise.

The way to get the best cabin location is to book the very first second the booking window opens.  This happens even before you see the cruise appearing on the Princess web site.  The tip off to when the booking opens is a Princess press release and a sharp cruise agent.

The Ruby Princess is my number #1 favorite Princess ship of its size due to the interior colors and pleasing permanent art work and tile.  The only down side to that class of ship is the congested Piazza aka Atrium during prime time.  That said, I would still book the Ruby in a heartbeat.  It is the fleet's newest ship, at least until 2013.

I know it's not good form to disagree with the Commodore, but I would just like to point out that my favorite cabin on the large ships is the very last mini-suite on Emerald Deck, the one with the extended balcony.  It is directly above Club Fusion, but in three cruises in that location, I have never heard a sound from the nightclub.  Also, the minis on Emerald Deck are covered; the ones on Dolphin Deck are not.

I agree with Host Mike that the catagory BB balcony cabins on the stern are the best value on the ships;  you have the same view as the suites at a fraction of the cost.  He is also right about booking literally the day bookings open--even before they appear on princess.com  The last two cruises I booked they are all gone by the end of the day.

That is so true, if you intend on obtaining a specific cabin.
We prefer a BB class balcony cabin in the Caribe deck, on the Grand class, and usually prefer starboard.
It's funny, but we always seem to have our bearings to navigate the ship when we book a location that we're used to.

Very true; and all the Grand Class ships being so similar really helps too--and I include Sapphile and Diamond Princess, as well as Ruby, Emerald, Crown and Caribbean Princess in "Grand Class."
