I'm hearing that if you take auto tips off of your shipboard account you can kiss your future Princess upgrades goodbye.

I've never had an upgrade so I'm not too concerned; of course I've never considered taking off the auto-tips either.

We have had a couple upgrades with other cruise lines but only one with Princess.  A 2002, 26 days on Star Princess we had booked a window cabin but were upgraded to D731 Mini Suite on the Star... very enjoyable.  After that we always book a cabin in our favorite area & like it that way.  One time on the Queen Mary ll we booked a cabin where we wanted to be, only to find we were upgraded to Queen's Grill but at the opposite end of the ship from where we had wanted to be.  No longer am I concerned about an upgrade, more interested in saving money in other ways & if it is by cutting back on auto tips, then so be it...

Now that's what I call an upgrade--an oceanview to a mini-suite; sigh!  Maybe someday.

Although I know you have great insider info Mike, I just can't see how these two things are related.  Folks get upgraded frequently because they're in a cabin someone else wants or Princess has too many guarantees in some category or another.  If the yield dept needs a cabin, I can't see how your past actions on a ship could have anything to do with it.

Just doesn't seem logical.

The Princess upgrade fairy seems to giving the best upgrades to those that bought the highest two letter class in a particular category.  I once met folks who got an upgrade from a restricted view to a suite.  They were frequent Princess travelers.
