Post by: Host Mike on February 12, 2020, 01:41:36 PM
"Carnival Cruise Lines said coronavirus could dent earnings in 2020 by as much as 65 cents if the cruise line is forced to suspend operations in Asia.

Carnival previously suspended cruise operations from ports in China and is now cancelling cruises in other parts of Asia.

Shares of Carnival are down about 13% this year."

I think the cruise industry as a whole will be seeing a decline in sales for the near future.
At least until this virus thing is under control.

Talking to the Capt circle host on the Regal the other day, they want to send him to Europe and even he's afraid to transfer out of the Caribbean right now.

"Ugh, everything's down," laments Monish Luthra, president and CEO of Odysseus Solutions, a Miami software company that handles bookings for cruise companies.

About 10 days ago, he says, reservations started to plummet, starting with flight bookings in Asia. "We've seen about a 40% drop" in cruise bookings, Luthra says."

Title: Right now most cruise lines are not allowing refunds

“Our Asia cruise business stopped overnight,” said Jay Johnson, owner of Coastline Travel Advisors in Orange County. His sales overall are off 5% this year compared to the same period last year. Cruise bookings are down more than that, everything else is up.

“People who have cruises booked to Asia for the next few months are asking for cancellations.” Right now most cruise lines are not allowing refunds but will let them rebook a different cruise, he said."

I would expect all cruise bookings to be off as well.
People overreact to the bad news even if it doesn't apply to their region.
Title: “It is a bit early to prophesize about long-term impacts,” said Ross Klein

“It is a bit early to prophesize about long-term impacts,” said Ross Klein, a professor who has done extensive research on crime, viruses and other bad things that happen on cruise ships. “We can only watch to see how deep the problems go and how the industry is effected in the short term.”
