1  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Princess Not as Good as in the Past on: August 09, 2018, 03:16:10 PM
We just returned from a 12 night British Isles cruise on Royal Princess. This was our first Princess cruise in two years. We found that dining room service was slower than we recalled on past Princess cruises. One reason may be that there are fewer assistant waiters. Information from the Princess galley tour noted that there are 109 waiters on board, but only 40 assistants. It used to be a one-to-one ratio.

Food quality was hit-or-miss. Fish was usually overcooked or mushy. Beef was usually good. The best food on the ship was at the International Cafe.

The tender process was unacceptable. There were long waits to disembark and re-embark at tender ports.

Shore excursions were grossly overpriced.

Production shows were good.

The “Movies under the stars” screen was used to screen concerts and movies most days, instead of providing live music.
2  Princess Cruising / Cruising Tips Chatter / Princess EZ Air on: May 10, 2018, 05:06:57 AM
just booked Princess EZ Air to Europe for Summer travel, $628 round trip. The best regular fare I could find was $1067. Check different dates to find the best fare. I saved $250/pp by adjusting travel by one day.
3  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Ship Design on: August 28, 2017, 07:38:57 PM
Some new ships are designed with more of a connection to the sea. MSC Seaside is one example with outside decks and venues. I think some of the newer NCL ships follow the same design concept.

Princess's newest ships (Royal, Regal) have done away with the wraparound promenade deck and are focused on the interior atrium. (I love the Princess Grand class ships.)

Has Princess lost the ball on design?
4  Princess Cruising / Princess Cruise Agent Chatter / CruiseCompete.com on: December 18, 2016, 09:05:09 PM
I use CruiseCompete.com

I usually end up using one or the other of the two best offers.

Make sure that there is no fee to change or cancel a reservation (other than the cruise line cancellation fee after final payment).
5  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Princess vs. Celebrity Air on: December 18, 2016, 08:56:35 PM
Princess E-Z Air allows you to reserve air and pay for the air tickets at final payment.

Celebrity Choice Air requires air payment at time of booking.

Advantage Princess, especially for Transatlantic or Transpacific travel.
6  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Princess "Sales" on: November 24, 2016, 10:17:10 PM
So I signed up on the Princess website for sales and promotions. Now nearly every day I receive an email about some new promotion. But there never is a real price drop for the cruises I am interested in (eight months to a year from now).

Maybe the Princess promotions only apply less than 60 days in advance.
7  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Princess Advance Deposit on: October 16, 2016, 08:16:32 PM
The Princess Advance Deposit is good for two years. Will Princess extend the expiration date if you request it?

9  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Next Princess Sale? on: March 05, 2016, 09:10:20 AM
Last week Princess offered a "twice as nice" sale with up to $600.00 on-board credits. This week, nothing. When will Princess have the next sale?
10  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Princess Cruises Offering $1 Deposits for Leap Day on: February 29, 2016, 04:18:21 AM
I think it is a good promotion. I can reserve future cruises without tying up cash. Then at final payment time, I pay the balance, just as always.

Princess is also offering extra on-board credit.
11  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Kathy Griffin to play Carnival ships on: December 04, 2015, 11:30:43 AM
People will pay extra for anything: meals, space ( sanctuary ), now shows.

The same occurs on Celebrity.
Keep complaining!
13  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Golden Princess turns back. Skips southern New Zealand due to weather outlook. on: November 22, 2015, 01:19:27 PM
Celebrity skipped two ports in Israel and did not offer any compensation to passengers. Princess did the right thing in offering a 30% discount on a future cruise.
14  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Princess Changes on: October 13, 2015, 08:08:40 PM
I haven't booked a Princess Cruise in over two years. Why?
Princess doesn't offer the 14 day cruises in the Caribbean, only the ones that are really two seven day cruises.

And the new Royal and Regal don't have outside walking decks, don't have enough swimming pools for the number of passengers.

The design of these new Princess ships is a mistake.
15  Princess Cruising / Princess Cruise Reviews Chatter / Re: Personal Memories from my 11/30/2014 Regal Princess Cruise on: December 14, 2014, 10:44:51 AM
There must be a new cruise ship law: "The bigger the ship, the smaller the library."
