3  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Man Had Heart Attack on Board, Then Ship Sailed, Family Says on: June 25, 2019, 11:01:52 AM
"The family of Jeffrey Eisenman, a 65-year-old passenger on the Carnival Sunshine, alleges in a lawsuit that the world’s largest cruise company wouldn’t let him off of the ship after he suffered a heart attack last December. Eisenman died on the way to another port.

Eisenman suffered a serious heart attack while the ship was docked at Grand Turk in the Turks and Caicos Islands on Dec. 3, according to a suit filed Wednesday in Miami federal court. Carnival’s doctor said Eisenman would need a stent implanted and that he should be flown to Miami because Grand Turk’s hospital wasn’t equipped with a cardiac unit.

Just before the ship’s 4 p.m. departure, the Eisenman family was told he couldn’t leave and the ship set sail for San Juan. But the family had purchased insurance that would cover an air ambulance, according to the suit.

A representative for Carnival said the Miami-based company was sorry for the Eisenman family’s loss, but the scenario alleged in their lawsuit isn’t accurate."

"In an email statement, Princess Cruises spokesman Nagin Kamali said Osakue was found unresponsive in one of the ship’s swimming pools about 5:15 a.m. Friday as the ship, which sails out of Port Everglades, was on the sixth day of a seven-day Western Caribbean voyage."
Osakue’s wife told investigators that “they had a lot to drink” prior to the drowning, but she was not with Osakue when he entered the pool, according to the Medical Examiner’s Office’s statement. A toxicology test will take at least a week.

Osakue drowned in the Caribbean Princess’ Neptune Pool, the statement said."

7  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Why captain ordered passenger off the ship – it could happen to you on: June 25, 2019, 10:28:37 AM
"A passenger claims he was kicked off Norwegian Breakaway after making discourteous comments to a crew member in a heated argument over reservations."

"Mr Gaines claims that he had reservations for the show but his name was not on the list. He became unhappy when the crew member refused to let him in.
He told NBC 6 in Miami that he responded with, “Listen you idiot, I’m telling you right now that my family is in the show. Why are you keeping me out of the show?”

Mr Gaines added, ”They started calling security, and I may have made a comment that said you better get more than a couple because I’m a big guy. They were really scaring me.”

The incident did not come to a physical altercation but a security officer showed up at his cabin to deliver the captain’s decision the next morning. He was told to disembark at Tortola, one of the British Virgin Islands."

10  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Whistleblower - one of the ship's engineers originally brought the case on: June 15, 2019, 06:22:38 PM
"A whistleblower – one of the ship’s engineers — originally brought that case to the authorities. That’s how regulators get most of their cases these days, according to a  Department of Justice official who spoke at a panel on the topic in April.

The Act to Prevent Pollution from Ships includes a whistleblower provision. Regulators say the six-to-eight people in the engineer room are often the only people who know what is happening on boats far from shore.

Since the 2017 violation, Carnival has been operating under a “supervised environmental compliance plan (ECP), including audits by an independent company and oversight by a Court Appointed Monitor,” according to the Monday announcement. The auditors basically found the company was not following the plan.

Violations Carnival admitted to include “interfering with the court’s supervision of probation by sending undisclosed teams to ships to prepare them for the independent inspections required during probation. “The court ordered them to stop. According to the DOJ, they didn’t. “Documents filed in court showed that a purpose of the vessel visit programs was to avoid adverse findings during the inspections.”

Many cases involve what is known at a “Magic Pipe,” a system set up to illegally discharge untreated oily waste. In the 2017 case, the whistleblower took photos of the magic pipe and handed them to inspector in in England and New York in 2013. During subsequent inspections, crew members lied to inspectors about the pipe, on order from Caribbean Princess engineering officers, according to Monday’s DOJ update."

14  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Former Gov. Scott Walker is hawking cruise to Hawaii on: June 15, 2019, 06:03:07 PM
Walker, 51,  and his wife, Tonette, 63, have cut a promotional video for the event, which will feature the tropical beauty of the Hawaiian islands – plus a Q & A with the former governor, who rode angry clashes with state employee labor unions to national promise only to have his presidential campaign collapse.

The cruise launches a 'VIP luau experience' with singers and fire dancers.

Then, the 'Pride of America' Princess cruise ship will tour 'the exotic and exciting Hawaaian islands,' Walker says in the video.

'Plus karaoke,' he notes in the video, filmed in a nondescript office room with nothing on the walls.

15  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Princess Cruises, agreed to pay a criminal penalty of $20 million for polluting on: June 15, 2019, 05:57:50 PM
"In a long history of plastic waste and oil dumping, Carnival Corporation, the largest cruise company in the world, admitted its subsidiary dumped plastic overboard in the Bahamas.

The subsidiary, Princess Cruises, has agreed to pay a criminal penalty of $20 million for illegal dumping and environmental violations.

Judge Patricia Seitz ordered all members of the Carnival Corporation Executive Committee to attend the hearing as Seitz grew increasingly frustrated at Carnival's long history of environmental violations associated with dumping waste overboard.

Carnival Corporation has agreed to pay $20 million after pleading guilty to releasing food and plastic waste into the ocean off the Bahamas. Environmental groups and customers have argued that fines on the order of $20 million are not significant enough to force Carnival Corp to change its long-held dumping practices. The fine of $20 million is equivalent to just 0.1% of the $18.88 billion Carnival Corp. brought in for 2018.

Carnival pleaded guilty to dumping plastic waste, not accurately recording waste disposals, creating false waste records, and sending crews to temporarily fix environmental violations before they can be inspected.
