Princess Cruises Passengers Can Connect with Fellow Travelers with New Princess Roll Call
Facebook Section Enables Fans to Meet Fellow Passengers on Their Voyage

SANTA CLARITA, Calif. (July 7, 2011) -- Princess Cruises has debuted a new Princess Roll CallTM section on its Facebook page enabling passengers on each sailing to connect with each other before and after their cruise. This special feature is designed to give Facebook users a way to ‘meet' fellow passengers, ask each other for advice, organize get-togethers and share the excitement leading up to a cruise and the memories afterward.

"Cruising has always been a very social experience, and passengers often like to embrace the community nature of a cruise even before they set sail," said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president. "This Roll Call section has been widely requested, and makes great use of the functionality of Facebook to give passengers a place to ‘meet' each other on a platform they already use. They can check in with their fellow cruisers to ask questions and make plans in the same place they use to keep up with family and friends."

The Princess Cruises Roll Call is organized by ship and date, making it easy to find a specific sailing. Upcoming Princess sailings through December 2011 are currently available in the system, and sailings through spring 2013 will be added shortly. Once passengers indicate that they are joining that voyage, they can leave comments or ask questions of fellow cruisers.

Each sailing's page will continue to be available after the voyage, so passengers can keep in touch and share stories and photos once they return home.

Passengers will be able to easily find their voyage's Roll Call page with direct links provided in their booking confirmation, in pre-cruise emails and in their Cruise Personalizer.

The Princess Roll Call can be reached directly here or by logging onto Princess' Facebook page at facebook.com/PrincessCruises and clicking on the "Roll Call" tab on the left.

Additional information about Princess Cruises is available through a professional travel agent, by calling 1-800-PRINCESS, or by visiting the company's website at www.princess.com."

3302  Princess Cruising / Princess Cruise Agent Chatter / Princess Cruises has again enhanced its POLAR Online booking engine on: July 07, 2011, 07:37:34 AM
"Princess Cruises has again enhanced its POLAR Online booking engine with several new features requested by travel agents.

princess_cruises_logoWith the addition of online deck plans, ship facts and itinerary maps, agents can now access information to answer client questions right from the POLAR Online screen without needing to navigate away or consult other sources.

The new POLAR Online features, which are exclusive to Princess bookings, include interactive Online Deck Plans that enable agents to zoom into all public areas on the ship and view cabin layouts; an Itinerary and Voyage Map for each sailing making it easier to see the ship’s route and review arrival and departure times for each port of call; Ship Facts including food and dining options as well as available activities; a Weather feature showing temperature and precipitation details for all ports of call on their client’s voyage – perfect for answering questions about what to pack.

“We know many agents have kept hard copies of these resources handy to help as they were completing their bookings, so we wanted to add them right into POLAR Online so agents can now access these details right from their screens as they are speaking to their clients,” said Jan Swartz, executive vice president of sales, marketing and customer service for Princess Cruises.  “We know agents will find the online deck plans especially handy as they try to find their client the perfect stateroom.”

More bookings for Princess are made through POLAR Online than through any other booking engine in the cruise industry.  The user-friendly, real-time travel agent reservations portal features an easy-to-navigate program, rich with information and functionality.  POLAR Online can create a new booking in as little as seven easy steps, and features dozens of unique functions including resources and tools not found on any other online booking system.  Among its many features, POLAR Online enables agents to build and manage groups and order group amenities, track promotional offers, create and manage a Cruise Sale, extend options, check on important final payment dates and apply Future Cruise Sales deposits.
Additional information about Princess is available through the line’s online travel agent center at www.onesourcecruises.com. To contact the travel agent customer service department, call 1-800-421-1700."

"A San Francisco-based cruise ship had more than 350 cases of norovirus in the past two months and is now being investigated by the federal government, but cruise owners say passengers are the ones bringing it aboard.

The Sea Princess reported 53 of its 2,196 passengers on the Princess Cruises 10-day Alaskan trip that left the Port of San Francisco on June 19 were affected by the virus, a highly contagious gastroenteritis infection. It is the fourth time since May 10 this ship has had an outbreak of the virus, according to the Centers for Disease Control."

"• Another from Hough: “Princess Cruise Lines is now dropping both Mazatlan and Puerto Vallarta as a port on their seven-day cruises from Los Angeles, citing concerns over ‘the continued violence in these areas.’ Really? If the cruise line was that concerned about violence, they would just drop Los Angeles.”

3309  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Risk to cruisers is "fractional" in Puerto Vallarta says tourism board on: June 24, 2011, 03:12:08 PM
"The Puerto Vallarta tourism board said in a statement that it was "sorry to learn of Princess Cruises’ recent decision," but referred to a recent security assessment study conducted by security consulting firm Thomas Dale & Associates, which found that the number of negative events involving foreigners or non-foreigners in Puerto Vallarta is fractional compared to the millions of visitors that vacation in Puerto Vallarta annually.

The study also found that visitors to the destination feel safe and continue to visit Puerto Vallarta repeatedly.

The Puerto Vallarta tourism board said that despite Princess’ decision it "looks forward to welcoming Princess Cruises and its passengers to Puerto Vallarta again in 2012."

3311  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Lopez Negrete says Mexico remains a wonderful and safe place to visit on: June 23, 2011, 03:56:21 PM
"Puerto Vallarta is a perfectly safe destination," says Rodolfo Lopez Negrete, chief operating officer of the Mexico Tourism Board. "We were very surprised and clearly very concerned about the announcement of Princess Cruises pulling out."

As we reported Monday, Princess cited worries about the safety of cruisers and crew in canceling calls in Puerto Vallarta -- a move that comes just months after Princess and several other cruise lines pulled out of Mazatlan, Mexico over safety concerns.

The decision came just days after the robbery and murder of a Canadian man who was living in Puerto Vallarta with his family, and in the wake of a new U.S. State Department travel warning about growing drug-related violence in Mexico. The travel warning specifically mentioned Mexico's Jalisco state, where Puerto Vallarta is located."

3312  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Chatter Registration Disabled on: June 22, 2011, 08:16:31 PM
The main spammer assault began in the last few months and has sharply increased over the last week or so.  The spammers have figured out how to automate the registration process forcing Princess Chatter to go to moderator approval on each application request.  I'd guess the board is now running around 100 fake registrations requests every day, even with maximum built in software registration security stops in place.  I doubt the spammers care about the content of this board.  Unfortunately the designers of simple machines forum have not added an automatic registration lookup with www.stopforumspam.com  In time I'll come up with ways to slow them down but for now they'll have to find another target.
