3391  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: My OBC rant on: September 06, 2011, 08:52:45 AM
My T.A. says that the more than 20 Princess cruises loyalty cabin credit is applied when you are on board and it is done by the Captain's Circle rep.  I'll believe that when I see it.

My T.A. also says that she has nothing to do with applying the U.S. military service OBC even though the Princess announcement says either Princess or the T.A. can see that it gets applied.  Maybe the T.A. or Princess has to apply it at the time of first booking but I'm not sure about this.

Prior to joining Corinthian, he served as vice president and controller for Princess Cruise Lines and as assistant controller for Royal Caribbean Cruises. Owen began his career at the international accounting firm, Deloitte LLP, where he served for 11 years in successively responsible audit positions in the U.S. and Canada. Owen earned a bachelor's degree in accounting from Florida Atlantic University.

Can't your T.A. get it for you?
3394  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / My OBC rant on: September 03, 2011, 06:20:18 AM
Princess wouldn't tell me the details of my On Board Credits (OBC) on a couple of upcoming cruises.  They said I had to get that information only from my travel agent.  When I got the OBC details from my T.A. I found that Princess had not posted my U.S. military OBC (for which I had properly sent the required documentation to Princess for each specific upcoming cruise), and not posted our more than 20 Princess cruises Loyalty cabin OBC.

As former U.S. President Ronald Reagan said once "Trust, but Verify."
3395  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Closing of Horizon Court on: September 03, 2011, 06:09:26 AM
Huh Apparently Princess will be closing the Horizon Court between the hours of 2400 and 0500. Huh

But what if I want a snack after leaving the disco at 2am, room service? Roll Eyes Shocked

Now to be serious, who wants to eat between 12 midnight and 5am, Princess ships are all asleep at that hour.  I thought the HC did not open for brekkie until 6am anyway.

I almost always get up between 4 and 6 am and I want my Horizon Court breakfast immediately.   Grin

Caribe Cafe has been serving a very early breakfast but on ships with only Horizon Court they never served any breakfast before 6 am except on disembarkation day. About the only thing you could find in Horizon Court before 6 am was cold pastries and hot coffee.  What disappoints me is the coffee bar on deck 5 doesn't open until 7 am.  Who ever heard of good coffee not being available until 7 am.

Speaking of coffee, my wife gave me major guff, even to the point of refusing to ever cruise with me again, when I told her I wanted to bring along our wonderful Keurig coffee maker to use in the cabin.

And speaking of breakfast, on one recent cruise they stole the ship's only working waffle maker from Horizon Court and gave it to Sabatini's for the Suite breakfast people.  How dare they steal our waffle maker?

RichC you are amazing.  You are the ultimate Princess picture taker.   Grin

My dear daughter, traveling with her family, had no trouble blowing circuits in a suite and all of the nearby cabins.  She had curling irons, curlers, God knows what - all going at the same time.
3397  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Rui Pereira - Maitre d'Hotel on: September 03, 2011, 05:48:17 AM
Rui moves around.  Lately he has been on the Ruby (or the Diamond).  What's confusing is that there are two Rui Pereira's working Princess ships.  One is a Maitre and the other is a Head Waiter.
3398  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Princess Australia offers voyages more suited to couples than families on: September 03, 2011, 05:39:56 AM
"Princess Cruises offers voyages more suited to couples than families and will have five ships sailing from Sydney, Melbourne or Brisbane in 2012-13. Voyages range from 11-night cruises along the Queensland coast on Dawn Princess to a 38-night Australia, Asia and New Zealand Grand Adventure on Diamond Princess which leaves Auckland on February 22, 2013.

With more than 700 balcony cabins, 12 eateries and a giant on-deck movie screen, Diamond Princess is the biggest in a well-endowed fleet. Sea, Sun and Dawn Princess will all visit Fremantle in 2013 on either Top End cruises or circumnavigations."

3400  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Princess Cays had slight damage from Hurricane Irene on: August 29, 2011, 11:49:45 AM
"Princess Cruises has been strangely quiet when it comes to issuing updates about its own private beach, Princess Cay, south of Eleuthera and used by Princess, a Cunard and occasionally a Regent Seven Seas, but no calls are showing as scheduled to the island in the near future. A spokeswoman for the cruise line told the Web site that “Princess Cays did have slight damage but we're confident it will be in full operation for our next call there on September 30.”

3402  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Sea Princess receives Port of San Francisco Cruise Ship Environmental Award on: August 27, 2011, 08:28:19 PM
"Sea Princess has been honored by the Port of San Francisco with its annual “Cruise Ship Environmental Award.”

This distinction was earned for the ship's outstanding record in San Francisco during the 2010 season for air emissions reduction, advanced wastewater management, and recycling and disposal programs.  This is the sixth year Princess Cruises has earned this prestigious accolade.

Sea Princess is able to “plug in” at the Port of San Francisco since the port’s new shore power facility launched in 2010.  The cruise ship terminal enables Sea Princess, and other equipped vessels, to use power from the city’s grid instead of the engines to power the ship’s onboard services – reducing emissions when docked in San Francisco.  The port became the fourth in the world where Princess Cruises’ ships can take advantage of this innovative technology.*

“We’re gratified that our environmental efforts are being recognized in San Francisco again, especially since we’ve been able to utilize our shore power technology at the port’s new facility,” said Jan Swartz, Princess Cruises executive vice president.  “We’re committed to doing our part to help ensure that pristine and beautiful ports like San Francisco stay that way.”
3403  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Caribbean Princess was ready to sail at 12:30 pm but didn't have to. on: August 27, 2011, 08:22:40 PM
For Sandra and Eddie Castle, no hurricane was going to keep them from their cruise vacation.

"We just want to get on board, and get away from this storm," Sandra Castle said as she and her husband towed their bags toward the massive Princess Cruises ship docked the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal early Saturday afternoon.

On the terminal all around the boat, which was originally due to sail out around 5 pm, last-minute preparations were underway to get the boat ready two hours early. Dark clouds from the front edge of Hurricane Irene periodically dumped rain down on the final stragglers streaming out of coach buses and into the terminal.

Starting around 5 in the morning, dockworkers had to maneuver some the baggage and supplies of 3,000 or so people from the last trip off the boat and then replace them with supplies and luggage for 3,000 new travelers. Cruise-line officials at the dock said abut 900 people out of 3500 had cancelled their reservations for the Saturday afternoon departure.

"We did this work in half the time," Chris Marsala, a stevedore, said as he rested on a folding chair near the boat, snacking on potato chips. "We all worked shifts, everybody chipped in, doing two jobs at a time, three jobs for some."

"And what time is it now, 12:30?" Al Arcamona, the head foreman, asked. "Usually we aren't finished with this until 3:00, 3:30. This boat is going off on time."
3404  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Hurricane Irene Update -- Caribbean Princess on: August 27, 2011, 04:18:25 PM
Caribbean Princess departed right on schedule at 5 pm today from Brooklyn, NY.   The NYC airports were reported to have closed at noon so there's a really good chance that a bunch of passengers missed the ship.

Hurricane Irene Update -- Caribbean Princess August 27 departure from New York/Brooklyn Cruise Terminal

Updated 6:15 pm PDT

We are continuing to track and monitor Hurricane Irene. Current passengers onboard Caribbean Princess are scheduled to disembark tomorrow in New York at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal. These passengers have been advised that the ship will arrive in New York one hour early to allow them to disembark and continue their onward travel as soon as possible.

We are encouraging passengers embarking Caribbean Princess tomorrow to arrive early, as check-in will now begin at 10:00 am. Caribbean Princess will sail as soon as possible and once passengers are onboard. The ship will sail away east of the storm to avoid the worst of the weather.

Based on the current predicted path of the hurricane, we have made the decision to alter our itinerary. The originally scheduled call to Halifax will be moved from Monday, Aug. 29 to Tuesday, Aug. 30. The ship will arrive at 7:00 am and depart at 4:00 pm. This change requires that we cancel the originally scheduled call to St. John for Tuesday, Aug. 30.

For passengers planning to drive to the port and park at the pier, we have been advised that the parking area at the Brooklyn Cruise Terminal will most likely be closed due to anticipated flooding. It is recommend that passengers instead make arrangements to be dropped off at the cruise terminal.

Passengers scheduled on tomorrow's cruise who are unable or unwilling to meet the ship in New York should contact their travel care providers, as cancellation policies will apply. For those passengers with Princess ezAir, the air department will be monitoring flights and assisting with rebooking flights, if needed, to embark the ship in Halifax on Tuesday. Passengers needing to fly to Halifax must have a valid passport.

At this time it is uncertain if any additional changes to the itinerary will be needed. In the coming days more information will be known and any additional itinerary changes as a result of the storm will be communicated to passengers onboard."
