1201  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Survey on: September 21, 2011, 04:08:31 PM
Yes you would not get all your Princess perks, but laundry was free as was specialty coffee/tea, soda, water, wine with lunch and dinner (had a number of 3 hour lunches) Wink, grat included as well.  Yes the pricing was higher but our on board acct was practically non-existant.  Was very nice but we still love Princess.

What in the world do you do at a 3 hour lunch, may I ask.
1202  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: What do you think about Princess closing the dining rooms at lunch on port days? on: September 21, 2011, 07:23:41 AM
Lets face facts, it would be a nice option to have it stay open even if only a few people were to use it but how can a cruise line keep spending money on things that are only utilized by a small percentage of their cruising population and expect to turn a profit. I would hate to think that they would have to raise the base price of the trips in order to satisfy the few that do use it.
I also thing it might improve the service for the buffet since there will be more personal available.
(although there's nothing wrong with the service now)

As far as the food quality of the buffet goes I see little wrong with it but then again I'm not that hard to please and although I don't like all the dished offered, there's always something I can find that's very good.

The problem with some people is that they're paying a decent price for the cruises & demand unreasonable perfection in every aspect of their trip. It's time for some complainers to look elsewhere for their next vacation.
1203  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Would you ban? on: September 21, 2011, 05:23:03 AM
I wouldn't miss embarkation day, but port days?  You'll never catch me in the Horizon Court on a port day.

Nothing better on a vacation like wasting time getting dressed to spend a hour eating lunch in the dining room to have just about the same thing they have at the buffet.  Wink Roll Eyes
1204  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Would you ban? on: September 20, 2011, 04:30:38 PM
If you were the Princess boss of the ship would you ban a kid on formal night wearing a t-shirt and shorts accompanied by his formally dressed parents?  No, it should be the required dress for all kids. Would you ban a gentleman on formal night with long sleeve shirt and tie and no jacket? Not at all, you've described me to a T. Would you ban a guy on formal night wearing an outlandish Scottish costume?  Nope, we all need something to laugh at during dinner.

Would you ban swim suits from being worn in Horizon Court unless they are worn by hot chicks? Only if I can choose who gets in.

Would you ban electric scooters from being parked all night in the hallway? Nope, it gives the kids something to play with.

Would you ban noisy kids running the halls, banging on doors and playing elevator tag? I wouldn't let them on the ship to start with.

Would you ban banging laundry room doors? Remove the laundry & make it a pay per minute smoking room with a TV.

Would you ban smelly passengers who forgot to change their depends? Only if they were in the hot tubs.

Would you ban old sugar daddies showing off their trophy blonds on the dance floor? Nope, that's my goal in life.

Would you ban families who let their kids make a ton of goofy poses and take up all the time on formal photo sets? Charge them for every shot.

Would you ban Cruise Directors from making activity announcements on all decks all day long? Let them babysit the kids.

Would you ban blasting music in Princess Theater and on deck? Nope, but no amplifier's allowed.
Would you ban Suite passengers jumping the line coming back to the ship? One offense & take away all privileges.

Would you ban talkers during the day in Skywalkers while you are up there trying to read? Yep

Would you ban smoking in the casino? NO. It makes lots of money, but I would keep the doors shut to the show lounge to keep the stench from coming in.

Would you ban cell phones in all public areas? That an easy solution. Increase the rates to $10 per minute & subsidize my cruise rate.

Would you ban the Captain from blowing the fog horn every x minutes all night long out in the middle of the vast ocean when it's foggy? Nope, but open the bar for free drinks since I can't sleep I might as well have some fun.

Hey, I'm just asking?  Tell me what you think.  Speak your mind.  This isn't CC where you must guard your every word for fear of being banned. Hell, I almost gave up posting on CC. They remove most of my comments anyway.

If you were boss of the ship would you

Ban "certain" asian groups from pushing others aside so they can get to the front? Only the ones carrying a camera.
Ban ugly art work from being displayed in hallways and near elevators? Yep
Ban the ship photographers from halting the embarkation lines in the terminal? Hell yes, so my wife can't make me pose for any more.
Ban the ship photographers from the dining rooms? Go ahead & shoot, I stop eating for nothing or no one.
Ban the smutty "Newlywed game" and all smutty comedians? Nope, I'd hire Andrew Dice Clay.
Ban the Princess Theater singers from lip syncing.  Ditto for band music fake syncing? Make them all sing & play without amps.
Ban watered down drinks at Captain Circle parties? They've stopped already.Everyone gets a couple for one real drink of choice.
Ban the wakey wakey show from being produced the day before? Yep, since there to cheap to give all the winners prizes.
Ban the personal choice dining rooms from having times for only fixed seating? I'd hang the Maitre D' for taking bribes to provide special treatment.
Ban all sale tables from deck seven during prime time? I'd have them just move the tables outside on the promenade deck...near the bow.
Ban the employment of cabin stewards who don't know how to make towel animals? Make them stay with RCI or Disney.

What about banning the whiners on CC who are up in arms with the stopping of lunch in the DR on port days. - All 50 of them. "I simply can't eat buffet doctor says so."  Cry

What about banning the people who can't stand others from bringing on to much wine or God forbid, alcohol  Shocked ....."You're going to spoil it for the rest of us."

What about the people who order multiple dishes on the menu just to have a taste.  Angry

I guess I've got to much time on my hands today.  Cool
1205  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Survey on: September 19, 2011, 11:25:44 AM
This spring we went on a cruise on the Azamara Journey and they do not have formal nights, always resort casual, no shorts/t-hirts etc.
We had a wonderful relaxing time, no need to pack extra formal gear/shoes.  It was the lightest packing we had ever done.  It did not take away from our enjoyment but added to it.  On our Princess cruise in June we decided to keep it going and didn't bring formalwear, had a great time and didn't feel we missed out on anything.

If they make it optional, I'm there!

I'll bet Azamara isn't priced the same as Princess plus the fact that I would lose all my perks with a new cruise line. No more lunch with the Capt., no more free minutes, no more free laundry, no more priority boarding, no more loyalty $$, no more priority tender service, no more credit card $$ applied to my account and I'm not sure but about the balcony smoking problems but after waiting many years for Princess to finally do something about it, they have & now I'd have to give that up also.  Cry
1206  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess "Please observe" statement on: September 18, 2011, 05:01:32 AM
"When formal nights are held, please observe the dress code in the Traditional Dining and Anytime Dining venues for the enjoyment of all our guests.

Evening gown, cocktail dress, or elegant pant suit for women
Tuxedo, dark suit or dinner jacket and slacks for men"

Not always enforced though. Huh

This we all know. I like the way they do it today, not strict enough to be keep people out & just enough to be comfortable.  Wink
1207  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Survey on: September 17, 2011, 07:42:13 PM

Yes, we thought it worked out very well for us.  It seemed to be quite popular with most of the passengers.  And still there were those passengers who tried to force their own changes.  Those who are just never satisfied...

Since the food is exactly the same in all the dining rooms, what's to complain about or try to change?
1208  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Survey on: September 17, 2011, 04:00:28 PM

Yes...  NCL had the first "Freestyle Cruising" & today they still do, including the dining room for "formal optional."

As I recall it worked out fairly well.
1209  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Survey on: September 17, 2011, 02:43:00 PM

NCL had a dining room "formal optional" ten years ago...

I guess it's been a while for me but don't they still have that formal option dining room?
1210  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Princess Survey on: September 17, 2011, 08:09:14 AM
That statement was a posted as part of a survey that some people received but has since been removed. I don't believe they will get rid of formal nights entirely because of the $$$ but possibly change one of the dining rooms to formal optional----we'll see.
btw- I'm still waiting impatiently for my survey. I would love to have an input into the final decision.
1211  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Princess Survey on: September 16, 2011, 06:24:10 PM
From what I'm reading, Princess has begun to send out a survey to get people's feelings about dressing formally on their ships. I still have not received one but I'm waiting with great anticipation. Has anyone else on this board received anything yet?

"Our one-week and two-week cruises offer two chances to dress up for the night, while our longer voyages offer even more. Guests take this opportunity to enjoy the evening's dining, shows, and entertainment while looking their best. A dress code is not mandatory, and everyone is encouraged to have a great time regardless of their plans for the evening.

We would like to know more about your opinion of formal nights and dress codes on Princess Cruises regardless of whether you choose to participate in these events. Please click on the link below to participate in our brief survey.

Best Regards,
Princess Cruises"

Although someone said it was a survey, it sounds more like a statement looking for input to their decision ??
1212  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: My OBC rant on: September 03, 2011, 02:36:13 PM
Can't your T.A. get it for you?

My TA always notes my CC on a confirmation sheet which I print but that CC never appears on Princess's web site & I confirm it after boarding.
1213  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: My OBC rant on: September 03, 2011, 06:30:30 AM
The only CC I can seem to verify is the $$ obtained from the credit card points. Anything else, we have to wait till on the ship before finding out.
1214  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Closing of Horizon Court on: September 03, 2011, 06:27:45 AM
April on the Star. I didn't even notice the limited selections after 11 PM but that is always typical. Not that many people stay up after 11- especially on Princess. From what I'm reading, they are totally shutting down the buffet at 11 PM lately which might not be all bad since thay can probably same big bucks & only disappoint a few people.

1215  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Can the 110V cabin desk power outlet supply 1500 watts? on: September 03, 2011, 06:17:10 AM
RichC you are amazing.  You are the ultimate Princess picture taker.   Grin

My dear daughter, traveling with her family, had no trouble blowing circuits in a suite and all of the nearby cabins.  She had curling irons, curlers, God knows what - all going at the same time.

We were on an old Celebrity ship years ago & we couldn't even turn on the TV, lights and hair dryer in the cabin without tripping the breaker every time. After happening numerous times, I just followed the cabin steward to the panel which was unlocked so I could reset it myself the next time it happened. The newer ships are wired pretty good in comparison- normally they know there won't be everyone using the hair dryers at the same time, which are the biggest load consumers.
