31  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Your Personal Avatar Can Now Board a Princess Cruise Ship With You on: January 04, 2019, 06:03:49 AM
So far the only thing that's good about it is opening your cabin door & finding your wife roaming around the ship. The rest of the current features, to me, seem to be worthless but important only to Princess to keep track of people spending dollars.
Of course as things progress when going to muster or when exiting the ship they might not have to scan each Medallion individually but well see.

Another feature that they were talking about is being able to stream their movies to a phone or tablet anywhere on the ship although I don't think the Medallion would have anything to do with that feature, just the high speed internet that they've been installing.

The cruise maintenance guys have a small device that plugs into the A/C wall control.  That device feeds data to a hand held device that tells the tech exactly what they need to know.  The tech can tweak the air damper setting which controls the cooling and heating in the cabin.  A good tech should be able to switch your cabin A/C damper from burning hot to freezing cold or vice versa.

We've gone that routine a few times & occasionally it'll help but if there's insufficient temperature of air flowing through the ducts it won't do a bit of good.
I even resorted to removing the deflector altogether & inserted some card board into the main duct to deflect more air into the room & still it was hot. There were many others in our section that also had the same problem.
Luckily they changed our cabin for the second leg.
No more old ships for us.....at least the newer designs have individual AC units for each cabin to supplement the AC from the duct work.

What about the cabins on a particular ship that have been noted for lousy air conditioning?
I guess there's no hope for identifying them before booking.  Cheesy
We've been burned three times on Princess over the years & I'd bet they haven't solved the problem in those cabins yet.  Wink

Build a Plexiglas wall & make it high for all those people on Carnival ships. Grin

But think of the entertainment value they provide running the down the pier to catch the ship.  Cheesy Cheesy Cheesy Grin Grin Wink

It really doesn't sound like much of anything new except the mattresses.
I hated to see the ship go to the west coast as it's one of my favorite newer ships here in Florida.  Sad Sad
We'll be forced to wait for the Sky Princess this fall unless we sail one of the older Princess ships and
the Carib Princess left us disappointed just recently as the food has had a dramatic change for the worst.

Oh well, there are other cruise lines.

On the Ruby Princess, a few weeks ago, they were not offering combined B2B Elite minutes at the start of leg one.  They did however carry over unused leg 1 Elite minutes into leg 2.
Could be because they haven't switched to the Medallion net yet?
39  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Ocean Medallion is in use on one ship - Caribbean Princess on: December 01, 2018, 06:17:52 AM
It worked but other than for entering the cabin & locating your cabin mate it doesn't seem to offer much over the cruise card. It was just something else to carry around all day. I did make a magnetic thing to stick it on my shirt like a badge so I would have to wear one of their necklaces or buy of of their overpriced accessories.  Grin
They also need many more sensors since using it to find your shipmate is sketchy at best. It provides a general location but nothing exact as I though it would. At least it gives a deck & general area which is better than looking around the whole ship. It'll give you a location like show lounge, which when almost filled is next to impossible to actually find anyone. I suppose when they get it working better they'll  improve upon it.

One really bad feature about it is, if you should lose your medallion, anyone who finds it can go directly to your cabin & enter it unless you report it immediately. Although the cabin number is not printed on the medallion, any of the boards around the ship will give you the exact cabin location. Very poorly thought out.
When I brought it to the attention of the PSD they didn't consider it to be a problem, so I asked when they would start printing the cabin number on the cruise cards.  Roll Eyes
No comment.  Cheesy  Cheesy

I'm sure they have to make a change in their software & boards very shortly.
40  Princess Cruising / Princess News & Princess Chatter / Re: Possible murder scene on the Royal Princess on: December 01, 2018, 05:57:04 AM
During our CB B2B during Nov there were hardly any people who heard the news about the incident, even the crew.
The news feed on their Fox link only broadcast some highlights from time to time.
41  Princess Cruising / Cruising Tips Chatter / Re: Princess visa card - What's in your wallet? on: December 01, 2018, 05:53:31 AM
Confusing? I'll say.  Huh

Can anyone explain the following part of their statement?

"When you erase a $50 Princess purchase by redeeming points for statement credit, you get a penny a point. But when you erase a $5,000 purchase, you get 2 cents per point."
42  Princess Cruising / Cruising Tips Chatter / Re: How to maximize your On Board Cabin Credits (OBC's) on: December 01, 2018, 05:48:35 AM
Just a quick note, on our last CB trip (B2B) they combined all our internet minutes in the beginning or our trip for both legs.
There was no need to use up the first allotment & then purchase the second group or minutes even though they were free.
There must have been many people who purchased the unlimited plan or if purchased per day around $20.
It seemed that they would be in the internet cafe early morning for ever.
The new system is fast enough to even download movies or so I heard.

Oh btw, the crew is allowed to but the unlimited internet for $60 per month. It sounds like it's cheap to most people but I suppose it's quite a bit for some of them on a limited salary.

We've been eating as early as possible & making the first show.
44  Princess Cruising / Cruising Chatter / Re: Bahamas Cuts Off Cruise Line Cash Flow on: October 27, 2018, 02:17:00 PM
I got off on our cruise last year only to see the town which we haven't been to in 15 years.
Nothing has changed & I'm sorry we didn't stay on the ship.

Finally a new ship that coming to the US.  Grin
