"Carnival Cruise Line has ordered 91 latest-generation X-ray systems from VOTI Dectection Inc. that use 3D Perspective technology.  The units will be deployed at nine of the cruise line’s North American ports to scan baggage before they are loaded on the ship."

"Deployment of the VOTI units has already begun at cruise ports around the country with full deployment expected by the end of February."

From what I gather is, that it lets them see the bottle in the suit case with a viewer.
So if the liquor isn't in it's original bottle but disguised in some fashion they'll see they still won't be able to know what's in the container.
Sounds like another scare tactic to increase profits once more.
Maybe they should resort to alcohol sniffing dogs ??  ;)
Although if there's any scent of alcohol in the suitcase (mouthwash) we all might be stopped going through the line.  :D

At some ports you must go through metal screening at the dock then metal screening as you enter the ship.  Hello San Diego, are you listening?  Then there is Kauai.  Wand screening in line followed by machine screening at the end of the line followed by machine screening as you enter the ship.
