Sun Princess Chatter / Magic Castle -
« on: January 16, 2024, 03:40:11 PM »
"Princess Cruises recently revealed that a nondescript black door on Deck 8 aboard the new Sun Princess will house Spellbound, a collaboration with Hollywood's famed Magic Castle."

"Renderings of Spellbound by Magic Castle on Sun Princess show the same ornately decorated Victorian interiors. The space will have three intimate rooms including a fireplace, a bar with sleight-of-hand servers, a 30-seat theater and even a resident spirit. "

"Multiple shows by reservation will take place throughout, with the admission fees to be announced soon."

Princess News & General Princess Chatter / Princess guide to gratuities
« on: January 14, 2024, 04:51:08 PM »
"Princess Cruises automatically applies “Crew Appreciation” charges to guests’ accounts to handle gratuities. These daily tips vary based on stateroom type. Interior, Oceanview, and Balcony cabins incur $16 (23.82 AUD) per guest daily. On the other hand, Mini-Suites and Club Class are charged at $17 (25.31 AUD) per person, while full Suites are charged $18 (26.80 AUD) per guest per day.

On top of the tiered daily appreciation charges, Princess Cruises also adds service charges to many optional purchases throughout the voyage. Specialty dining venues and food items incur a 17% service charge. Meanwhile, drink packages, individual beverages, brought-on wine corkage fees, private events, and the spa have an 18% non-refundable gratuity added automatically."

Regal Princess Chatter / No More Roatan for Regal Princess
« on: January 08, 2024, 03:33:08 PM »
"Princess Cruises has made an alteration to a Regal Princess cruise sailing on January 21 out of Galveston, Texas. Instead of sailing to the tropical island paradise of Roatan, Honduras, guests will spend the day at Belize City, Belize instead.

The change in itinerary was made by Princess Cruises in light of congestion in Roatan. The small island has a limited number of berths and can only accommodate three cruise ships at the same time."

"This sometimes-adversarial relationship between locals and tourists isn’t new though. Weisel recalls when she first bought the bar. Her first act of business was removing a sign that the previous owner, Larry Buster Sr., had hung from the back deck. The sign was on full display when cruise ships pulled into port. And it said: “F*** Princess Cruise Lines.”

“As soon as the paperwork was done, I said I gotta go get something on the deck,” Weisel laughs. “And Larry said ‘No! The sign that I made that says, F*** Princess Cruise Lines?’ And sure enough, I come off the deck and I have that sign. You might as well shoot yourself in the foot, Larry, to have that sign out there. I just bought the bar. I’m sorry. I mean, come on. Times change. It had to go.”

Weisel says she gets it though.  “A lot of locals, the really devout locals, they know what day is the slowest for the cruise ships every year. That’s the only day they come and get mail. I mean, some people just do not like the tourism, and I understand. I’m not going to push it down their throat, I get it.”

"When Princess Cruises announced plans to make Yorktown a port of call in coming years, residents of the historic village balked at the idea. The plan was for the cruise line’s Island Princess to visit Yorktown three times next year as part of a pilot program, with a similar number of limited stopovers in 2025.

The ships wouldn’t come right up to the Yorktown docks, but anchor more than 1.5 miles away and ferry passengers ashore. But residents have remained unsure, citing worries about pollution, traffic and the overcrowding of Historic Yorktown Village when the cruises would be in port."

Sun Princess Chatter / Princess Cruises’ Sun Princess
« on: December 31, 2023, 09:04:40 AM »
"The first of a new Sphere class, it’s the largest ship in the Princess fleet coming in at 21 decks, 175,500 gross tons and a 4,314-passenger capacity based on double occupancy, which is about 30,000 more tons and 750 more guests than its last class of ships.

Currently under construction at the Fincantieri shipyards in Italy, its design will feature more balconies, a supersized 1,000-seat main theater called Princess Arena with an in-the-round layout with moveable seats and a three-deck main dining room.

A pair of unique offerings on the ship will be a bistro called The Butcher’s Block by Dario from celebrity Tuscany butcher Dario Cecchini and the Spellbound by Magic Castle venue in partnership with Hollywood landmark Magic Castle, a private club for the Academy of Magical Arts. The cruise venue will feature Victorian-era stylings amid themed rooms where servers will perform sleight-of-hand tricks while delivering theatrical cocktails."
