The shows on the Emerald just before Christmas were... marginal, and that's being kind. Undoubtedly the pandemic had carryover effects making dancers and performers more scarce. Nice to see ambitious goals being set.

It's definitely an interesting and fresh approach.

Perhaps the best way to experience this is to just dive in, and book. The Grand class does have peculiarities that 'tag' the age and design choices. Much has  changed with larger vessels, lessons learned, and managing the flow of people.

You mention better layout. Is there a specific vessel that comes to mind?

Almost, well every cruise I have been on has been on a Grand Class vessel, or older. Inevitably I will have opportunities to sail on newer vessels. This topic is to solicit the experience and opinions of those who've sailed newer vessels. Information as to cabin selection, deck and cabin layouts, theater seating, alternative restaurants and the like are all welcome. It would be nice to initiate the next page in cruising with the sage words of experienced cruisers. Please chime in. What you know is always of greater value than you think.

I noticed that on the Ruby, a crew member who was making Lavazza percolated coffee at the buffet would add 2 new packets of grounds to the existing used grounds.
I'm not sure if this is common practice on all the ships. I thought it was strange he didn't just empty out the old grinds first. It must give inconsistent strengths of coffee.

That's disgusting. I'm sure that's not the way they are supposed to do this. Or maybe... it is. Watching the 'Cruising Season 1' and all of the wonderful zest and vigor on the show, and comparing it to current 'status quo' practices for my experience on the Emerald, doesn't leave me optimistic. I will be on the Ruby in March, and see if these 'short cuts' are the new way of Princess, IMHO.

"The Cruise Season 1 takes viewers behind the scenes...

I like the term "Frequent floaters" . 😅

Yes, there's nothing like that smooth rocking at night. Next to that, mid-aft is my next favorite.

Thanks to this article, I tagged CruiseMapper for use. MarineTraffic is moving to a pay to play system.

The contracts are lengthy and seeping with verbiage, not just for cruises. But after the fiasco at sea when covid made its first appearance onboard, the lawyers got to work. Few people have the patience and understanding to decode the legalese. Air tight, like a colander.

"Most of the crew did a good job except for the new cruise director, Jess. Her constant screaming into her mic made her announcements unbearable. We're used to a more laid back attitude for a CD & her attitude was more suited for a Carnival cruise.  ::)
Maybe were just getting to old for that bubbly attitude. She certainly didn't fit the typical Princess stereotype."

Were on the Ruby in March. Hopefully "Jess" will have advanced to other opportunities. Overly brassy CD's ate grating.

New app seems to require separate entry of credit card info for 'shoreside medallion transactions', or you can't proceed to 'green lane' status. Much complaint on 'the critic' site. Funny how the old medallion app still doesn't have this issue. Bug, or deliberate... it was noticed.

Interesting. Plastic lids on coffee cups disappeared, and morning yogurt is served, partially filled, in juice glasses. Also no plastic stir sticks for coffee and tea service, as they now use cutlery, which is deposited into receptacles after use. Fleet wide, that has to be a huge waste reduction.

"Princess Cruises is taking significant steps to enhance its onboard guest experience with the launch of a new app for passengers. Set to be released in the coming days, the app promises to be a significant upgrade over the current MedallionClass app.

The introduction of the new app coincides with the introduction of Starlink internet across the Princess Cruises fleet of cruise ships. The combination of Starlink and the new app will likely enable Princess Cruises to make true their promises of being one of the most technologically advanced cruise lines worldwide."

New app is available for DL.

Honestly cannot tell you. We just ate from the 'Fresh Marketplace' offerings, with the occasional slice or burger. Did go to the Crown Grill once, and did the 'add on' lobster tail for $10. There certainly seem to be many things previously available for no charge that now cost more.

The theater was a different experience on the first production show performance night.
Ugh!
