That is what I tell people I cruise with. You do not need a passport, but I highly recommend it. If something happens you are asking for trouble.

We always travel with our passports BUT I've also been told that a copy will help out if the original isn't available.
I do have paper copies but recently have begun to keep a copy in Google docs.

I'm not sure if it would do much in any situation but it's available if needed along with birth certificates, drivers licence & anything else that I though might help for id.
