"When Princess Cruises announced plans to make Yorktown a port of call in coming years, residents of the historic village balked at the idea. The plan was for the cruise line’s Island Princess to visit Yorktown three times next year as part of a pilot program, with a similar number of limited stopovers in 2025.

The ships wouldn’t come right up to the Yorktown docks, but anchor more than 1.5 miles away and ferry passengers ashore. But residents have remained unsure, citing worries about pollution, traffic and the overcrowding of Historic Yorktown Village when the cruises would be in port."

"YORKTOWN, Va. — The grassroots organization "Preserve Yorktown" is continuing its push to halt a cruise stop set for this summer.

Princess Cruise Lines announced last year that Yorktown was featured in its 2024 schedule. The "Island Princess" is set to dock this June."

"Preserve Yorktown has been vocal in its opposition of the cruise line, collecting more than 7,000 signatures in an online petition. On Sunday, residents packed a room at the Tabb Library for the group's second public input meeting."

"After hearing from angry Yorktown residents who said they don’t want to encourage more cruise ships in coastal Virginia, a House of Delegates panel voted 5-3 Tuesday to reject a proposal to allow large cruise ships to activate their casinos within Virginia waters."

It appears that they're making a considerable amount of money even if the ships don't stop there.
I guess they don't need the income.  ::)
