Princess News & General Princess Chatter / Re: Post Grand class vessels
« on: January 12, 2024, 05:33:52 AM »
While we won't return to the grand class ships any longer- just to many problems with them that we don't need. We'll be waiting to a chance to sail on the new Sun class out of Florida, perhaps in the fall of 2024.

We've come to enjoy the better layout, food selections & shows on the newer ships and don't care about the itinerary at all since we've covered all the islands on the Caribbean many time over. I've been surprised at the number of people who choose to say on the ship at many of the ports just to enjoy the ships atmosphere when the majority rush off to see the sights.

I noticed that on the Ruby, a crew member who was making Lavazza percolated coffee at the buffet would add 2 new packets of grounds to the existing used grounds.
I'm not sure if this is common practice on all the ships. I thought it was strange he didn't just empty out the old grinds first. It must give inconsistent strengths of coffee.

That's disgusting. I'm sure that's not the way they are supposed to do this. Or maybe... it is. Watching the 'Cruising Season 1' and all of the wonderful zest and vigor on the show, and comparing it to current 'status quo' practices for my experience on the Emerald, doesn't leave me optimistic. I will be on the Ruby in March, and see if these 'short cuts' are the new way of Princess, IMHO.

We were extremely disappointed in the buffet food on the Ruby in Nov. We were on it about 8 years ago for the first time and maybe I didn't know any better but since then we've been sailing Royal class ships almost exclusively with more selections & better layout. At times we found nothing presented there of interest to eat at lunch so we resorted to eating hamburgers & fries, which for us was a first on Princess.
The food in the main DR was perfectly fine & we ate all our evening meals there.

Let me know your feelings about the buffet. We met old friends that we've sailed with in the past who though likewise about the buffet. You won't starve but it certainly can't compare to the newer ships. At least I didn't gain any weight on the Ruby.  ::)
One thing for certain is that we'll be sticking to the Royal class from now on and the new Sun class when they arrive in Florida someday.

Glad to see they came up with some new shows for this new ship. I'm getting bored with the production shops on the Royal class ships already.

You pay your money and take your chances.  ;D

That sounds like a fun trip.  :(

I pretty much don't drink their coffee except for the blended ice coffee. It all seems to strong to me.

If you cruise often enough you'll find that does occur from time to time.
There's not much that you can do about it, except whine.

As long as it's only recommended I'll be content. The moment it becomes a "requirement" we'll once again postpone our cruising until things settle down.

Who reads the cruise contract, until you have a problem.  ;)

That's what I've been using for years.

191
I'm not totally eliminating it for now.
We'll wait till the price is reasonable.

192
That airfare has always keep it from being a "deal".

193
From what I heard they've done away with the wooden skewers also. I guess they're bad for the environment also or maybe they're just to expensive. ??

194
Since I refuse to pay for shipping my medallion I guess I'll have to remain in the blue line forever.  ;)

We just returned from the Ruby (Nov 6th sailing) and found some things a little disappointing. The production shows are really outdated, but that was to be expected.
Buffet food was really disappointing to say the least. Very little variety with sometimes only 1 main item offered. We had a lot of port days & couldn't use the DR for lunch.

The redeeming thing was the food in the DR which we found pretty good overall. We never had one bad meal in the DR.

One night we went to the Crown Grill & it was terrible. We had 2 or 3 appetizers each although our waitress pointed out that it was limited to only 1 appetizer but she had to confirm it with the Chef to get approval for more.  :(
Our main course of Rack of Veal was so tough neither of us actually finished it. For $80 spent, we wouldn't return anytime soon.

Most of the crew did a good job except for the new cruise director, Jess. Her constant screaming into her mic made her announcements unbearable. We're used to a more laid back attitude for a CD & her attitude was more suited for a Carnival cruise.  ::)
Maybe were just getting to old for that bubbly attitude. She certainly didn't fit the typical Princess stereotype.
